What is A2C?
A to C: Arts Cross Culture / Arts to Culture
Key Objectives
To create both local and international O2O art platforms: combining online and offline arts resources, to increase both the current and potential audiences for artistic activities; to close the gap between the numbers of performances in urban and rural areas and to improve the democratization of art.
To create a different type of art festival: festivals should not be a one-time flash in the pan activity; we actively try to plan different styles of activities, and thus are trying to challenge the old model, and hence enabling art and life to connect more closely.
Taiwan Performance Arts Team International / Cross-border cooperation: to promote the innovative performances by Taiwan's Arts Team, actively co-operate across industries, use cross-border cooperation to create a new spark and a new vision, and to establish co-operative opportunities for ongoing domestic and international performance arts exchange.
Artistic ambitions and goals
Three year plan
To present the Taiwanese performance arts team with a social enterprise model.
To build a cross border dialogue platform for performance arts and other industries.
To increase audience numbers for the performances.
To link society with the arts.
Five year plan
To establish a regular arts exchange mechanism between Taiwan and the world.
To build international relationships and gain international access.
To create a Taiwanese international performance arts brand.
To improve the democratization of art, so that all layers of society have access to art.
The design and purpose of previous performance art forums were mostly to attract people from within the arts circle and for professionals within the circle to exchange views; other members of the public may not have known of it, or couldn't access the forum. In this era of cross-border integrated platforms, the "Performance Art Cross-border International Forum" wants to break the barriers and myths inside and outside of the arts industry, to promote more diverse ideas, with the vision of forming a broader and healthier ecology of performance art.
[Cross-industry representatives exchange dialogue: performing art industry X academics X business community X community X public sector] The forum will be held in Taichung for two days, and will invite representatives from various industries to address topics regarding recent developments within their industries as well as their vision for the arts. They will discuss with performance artists on how the arts can use their creativity to help build these industries, in order to both play both an important role in industry whilst creating more opportunities for performance arts. On the one hand it will help the performance artists understand the social pulse and the needs of industry, in order to provide more creative material or even custom orders; on the other hand it will let representatives from the various industries reposition their thinking. The so-called performance arts are not only an abstract presence in the National Art Hall gallery, but are the soul of our times, a mirror of society and a healing mechanism for industry.
[Cross-border representatives conversation: Taiwan X UK X Malaysia] The positioning of this forum is to promote the mission of cooperation and not only as a social event for domestic and foreign performing artists to get to know each other. This year, we will focus on the cooperation between Taiwan, U.K. and Malaysia, and we are planning to invite three British and Malaysian curators, producers or art critics to share the status quo of performance arts in their countries, and to discuss specific opportunities for cooperation with Taiwanese artists.
The new marketing model: "Performance Art International Study Exchange Trip
In today's information technology world, watching performances does not need an actual physical presence and media networks can save a lot on the viewing costs. The "Performance Arts International Exchange Tour" is designed to highlight the most original points, feelings and appeal of these performance arts, so that both international and local people can have the opportunity to see the unique vitality of Taiwanese arts and their strong connection with its motherland. Target audiences are international curators, art critics, art workers, but also entrepreneurs, the media, educators, etc., with the idea of the artists and the participants creating a journey together.
[Overseas Study tour: taking the opportunity to experience other cultures and then create local experiences, using this creativity to enrich the Taiwanese culture] Invite Taiwan's curators, producers and performers to attend British and Malaysian arts festivals and communicate with local production teams to bring more ideas back to Taiwan from the actual experience of the festivals and to create a special international vision of these festivals.
[Domestic study trip: cultural travel, connecting at a grassroots level, very lively and beautiful] Invite international curators, art critics, art workers, entrepreneurs, educators, etc. to Taiwan to enjoy the light and shadow art festival, the countryside enlightenment, the audit village, rehabilitation village, the red dot brigade, Taichung Opera Hospital, the green plan and the Taiwan Chinese industrial park. Through this cultural travel, they will feel the vitality of the old and new city of Taichung and the countryside art and will be able to communicate with Taiwanese performance artists.
[Travel with the artist: art is not far away, its right next to you] Invite the general public and students at home and abroad to participate with the above delegation, they will see the world through the artists’ eyes, savor the artists’ tastes, and close the distance between the people and the artists, and thus truly feel the true meaning of art life.
